This is Opening Day at Candlestick Park on April 12, 1993. The SF Giants played the Florida (Miami) Marlins which were an expansion team that started their first season in 1993.

SF Giants Opening Days are exciting. These Fans came early to see the events. It was a bright day at Candlestick Park which was unusual compared to the normal fog.  The cable car with past players was fun to see.

It is interesting to see the banners for advertisements under the bleachers. It’s good that Charles Schwab and Lee are still in business. How many of us still remember “the good guys“? Well I have good memories about “the good guys” since they were my former employer until they went out of business. I worked as a photographer in their advertising department. I enjoyed my job and shooting the different products and promotions for the corporation. It gave me good experience about product photography. I traveled to different stores to photograph special events. It was sad when the corporation closed.

Nevertheless, I also gained lifetime friendships with co-workers from the “the good guys”.  Pre-pandemic, I periodically would meet these good friends to enjoy good food and fun together. We worked in different departments, but shared fun and crazy times together.

A good photograph should trigger us to reflect, remember and ponder. It is easy to rush thru our day to accomplish our to-do list of tasks and forget to sit and reflect. Candlestick Park was a great place where many fans could learn about baseball or football with family and friends. I receive comments from fans who relish those moments at Candlestick Park. When I look at this photo, I feel the excitement of that Opening Day. I reflect about my days working at “the good guys”. I also look forward to new memories to attend a new SF Giants Opening Day as our pandemic restrictions change to allow our attendance at Oracle Park.

Displaying photographs which make us feel happy is important. Create a space to generate happiness and joy. Rotate pictures around the house or during different times of the year to keep happy thoughts. Our space should be comfortable and inspire us to be better and remember past lessons for future success.

Photos give us joy!

SF Giants Home Opening Day, April 5, 2019

It has been over a year since I was at Oracle Park. I went to the last Opening Day Game with fans in attendance with my cousin in 2019. I appreciate my cousin who periodically invites me to join her in watching the SF Giants at Oracle Park. I usually bring in my favorite burrito into Oracle Park or I buy a chicken sandwich. We signed up to not drink alcohol and get a free soda or hot chocolate drink. My cousin loves to enjoy her Ghirardelli hot chocolate sundae.

Our mutual enjoyment of watching the SF Giants gives us an excuse to have a good time of fellowship and talk about our lives.

In addition to the food and fellowship at Oracle Park, I love the new scoreboard. It was cool how Oracle Park upgraded the scoreboard to the Mitsubishi Electric 4K Display in 2019. It is super clear and big.

My photographs shows the detail in this 4K display. The pictures of the SF Giants players are pretty sharp. We always have our eyes on the baseball field, but we also need to see the stats, the different videos, acknowledgements for the fans’ special celebrations and the fun games. The scoreboard is the second object fans closely watch when not watching the details of the game.

It is true – bigger is better for a scoreboard. It is also true 4K gives us the best clarity in the images, videos and details of the stats.

Thank you Oracle Park for upgrading your scoreboard, so the fans can have a better experience attending the games.

The big question is when will we be able to return to Oracle Park to watch the SF Giants live.

Will we be able to attend Opening Day in 2021?

I am glad to have these photographs to remind me how nice the 4K scoreboard is.

Keep photos to remember!

Bruce Bochy Embracing Pablo Sandoval

Bruce Bochy is close to his players and is very popular among them. He has their respect, and they really want to make a run at the post season for his last year managing the SF Giants.

This photograph was taken at the SF Giants Home Opener. Bruce Bochy had the honor to throw out the first pitch of the game. Pablo Sandoval caught the pitch. After Pablo caught the pitch, he and Bruce gave each other a good hug.

A good team requires an effective leader who knows his players. Bruce Bochy knows his players – their weaknesses and their strengths. He knows how to coach the players to overcome their weaknesses. He knows how to create an atmosphere where the SF Giants can work together to win!

We all are a part of at least one team. Our team could be our family or our work group. A team could be a particular group of friends. At the very least, we are a part of the planet earth team. We need to learn how to connect with others on a personal level. Social media – i.e. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram provide a level of interaction. But it cannot substitute with one on one interaction where we actually see a someone face to face. How well do we know people on “our team”.  Do we make people we encounter comfortable or uncomfortable due to the vibes we give out? Are you a resource where people will come to you for comfort and help?

Can we learn how to connect with others to help them become better? Can we learn to be a coach like Bruce Bochy to help someone reach their potential?

Canon, Canon 5D Mark IV, Home Opener, Opening Day, Oracle Park, San Francisco Giants, SF Giants

It was great being at the SF Giants Home Opening Game on April 5, 2019. It has been a while since I attended a home opening game.

I am fortunate my cousin invites me to attend games with her, otherwise I would not have gone. Going to the SF Giants games gives an excuse to hang out together.

This was an extra special home opening game, since it is the last time Bruce Bochy will be there as the manager. Watching him throw the pitch was indeed a special moment.

As is my custom, I arrived at the new Oracle Park before noon to roam around the stadium to shoot photographs. You can see my cousin purchased good seats behind home base.

I brought my Canon lenses – 16-35mm wide angle lens to get a good view of the entire field and the bay. I also used my 100-400mm zoom lens to get some closer shots of Bruce Bochy.

Even though the Giants lost to the Rays, I still enjoyed photographing the stadium and celebrating Bruce Bochy’s past accomplishments with the team.

Winning is important. But it is also important to celebrate a good manager and leader. Our expectation of any leader’s ability should be to give their all in their performance. We cannot expect 100% perfection. But we can be thankful to witness a leader’s passion and endurance to teach and train their players. Bruce Bochy has been a great leader and manager. I personally would like to thank Bruce Bochy for his dedication to the SF Giants and his ability to inspire the players and the fans.

Go Giants!

Candlestick Park, Opening Day, Opening Day 1993, San Francisco Giants, SF Giants

This is the 3rd post of the SF Giants Opening Day in 1993 at Candlestick Park.  I gathered my photographs of this day at the request of a fan who was at this game and also in the pre-game parade.

You may wonder how I could have shot so many photographs of this day or of Candlestick Park.

Why is Candlestick Park so special? For me it represents the beginning of finding my passion in finding art at this baseball stadium. I grew up at the Stick watching the Giants play ball. It was a great place to be with family and friends while enjoying baseball. It was easily accessible. We did not have to spend lots of money to have a good time.

For many fans, Candlestick Park was a special place where they grew up. It was a place where dads and moms took their sons and daughters to watch the SF Giants and explained the game of baseball.  The Stick was the location for family gatherings to share their love of baseball.  Friends gathered together and spent quality time together.

For many old SF Giants fans, Candlestick Park brought together families and friends to build stronger bonds and spend quality time together.

Even though the Stick is gone, the memories hopefully can be remembered when we review these photographs.

Here are more photographs from Opening Day at Candlestick Park in 1993.

You can see I got there pretty early before the game, since there are a few pictures where there are lots of empty seats. I get into my “groove” of shooting photographs when the stadium was empty, and I could freely roam to take different views of the park.

It was easy access to go to any SF Giants game, since tickets were inexpensive. Therefore, I could spend hours enjoying all the different perspectives of the stadium.

It is amazing how so many fans in the Bay Area have special memories and place in their heart for this old former stadium.

One fan has special memories of this particular opening day. So I am posting more photographs of this day. I still have more so stay tuned. Good memories are important to keep and cherish. What are your special Candlestick Park memories?

Everybody loves a parade. This was a parade of famous SF Giants retired players. They rode in classic, antique, and a motorized cable cars. So who were the players in this parade?

Well there was Willie Mays, Vida Blue, Mike Sadek, Ed Halicki, John – The Count – Montefusco, and others. These are the names I photographed on the scoreboard.

The Grateful Dead sang the national anthem before the game began. I captured their name posted on the scoreboard.

This 1993 Home Opener game was against the Florida Marlins where the SF Giants won 4-3.

I took these photographs early before the game started. It’s too bad more fans did not come earlier to see the festivities. I am so glad I was able to capture this memorable time watching these great SF Giants players celebrate this first home game of the season.

I went thru my photographs to group together these opening day photos from 1993 upon a request of someone who was actually in this opening day parade.

It would be great to hear other fan’s memories about this event and game. I would appreciate to hear from others who attended this game to share their memories. I so glad I have these photos to remind me of this exciting parade and opening day. I know if I did not have these photographs I would have forgotten many of these details.

Keep preserving your life memories with photographs.

By the way, I will be posting my black and white photographs from this opening day in another blog post.
