SF Giants Home Opening Day, April 5, 2019

It has been over a year since I was at Oracle Park. I went to the last Opening Day Game with fans in attendance with my cousin in 2019. I appreciate my cousin who periodically invites me to join her in watching the SF Giants at Oracle Park. I usually bring in my favorite burrito into Oracle Park or I buy a chicken sandwich. We signed up to not drink alcohol and get a free soda or hot chocolate drink. My cousin loves to enjoy her Ghirardelli hot chocolate sundae.

Our mutual enjoyment of watching the SF Giants gives us an excuse to have a good time of fellowship and talk about our lives.

In addition to the food and fellowship at Oracle Park, I love the new scoreboard. It was cool how Oracle Park upgraded the scoreboard to the Mitsubishi Electric 4K Display in 2019. It is super clear and big.

My photographs shows the detail in this 4K display. The pictures of the SF Giants players are pretty sharp. We always have our eyes on the baseball field, but we also need to see the stats, the different videos, acknowledgements for the fans’ special celebrations and the fun games. The scoreboard is the second object fans closely watch when not watching the details of the game.

It is true – bigger is better for a scoreboard. It is also true 4K gives us the best clarity in the images, videos and details of the stats.

Thank you Oracle Park for upgrading your scoreboard, so the fans can have a better experience attending the games.

The big question is when will we be able to return to Oracle Park to watch the SF Giants live.

Will we be able to attend Opening Day in 2021?

I am glad to have these photographs to remind me how nice the 4K scoreboard is.

Keep photos to remember!

SF Giants Team Rallying Support for Manager Bruce Bochy in 2019

Bruce Bochy, Home Opener, Oracle Park, San Francisco Giants, SF Giants

I was fortunate to be at this game in April 2019 where Bruce Bochy was honored surrounded by the SF Giants players.

Bruce Bochy is the best. I appreciate his leadership these past years. He truly will be missed. He earned the respect of his team! We will miss his leadership and baseball experience.

Why do I love Bruce Bochy? He has led the SF Giants to 3 World Series Championships with his wisdom and experience. He has 41 years of experience in professional baseball. He learned how to bring out the best in his players as a manager. In his younger days, he hit .239 with 26 home runs. He continued to build on his talents and knowledge during the years.

After he ended his baseball career, he started managing in the minor leagues before moving to manage the San Diego Padres. He worked hard to become the manager he is today. He is direct and knows how to push the players to achieve results.

Bruce Bochy’s career teaches us how each of us needs to continue to work and evolve in whatever career and passions we have.

We all have unique talents. Do we see a pattern in our life where we are achieving small goals to reach our next big goal? If we are not achieving small goals, can we evaluate why we may be failing? Can we adjust and change our game plan?

Bruce Bochy constantly works on adjusting the SF Giants game plan to seek wins.

How can we adjust our game plan for success? Persistence in gaining skills and wisdom is a continual practice.

Learn from Bruce Bochy and keep building to achieve more knowledge and experience.

Canon, Canon 5D Mark IV, Home Opener, Opening Day, Oracle Park, San Francisco Giants, SF Giants

It was great being at the SF Giants Home Opening Game on April 5, 2019. It has been a while since I attended a home opening game.

I am fortunate my cousin invites me to attend games with her, otherwise I would not have gone. Going to the SF Giants games gives an excuse to hang out together.

This was an extra special home opening game, since it is the last time Bruce Bochy will be there as the manager. Watching him throw the pitch was indeed a special moment.

As is my custom, I arrived at the new Oracle Park before noon to roam around the stadium to shoot photographs. You can see my cousin purchased good seats behind home base.

I brought my Canon lenses – 16-35mm wide angle lens to get a good view of the entire field and the bay. I also used my 100-400mm zoom lens to get some closer shots of Bruce Bochy.

Even though the Giants lost to the Rays, I still enjoyed photographing the stadium and celebrating Bruce Bochy’s past accomplishments with the team.

Winning is important. But it is also important to celebrate a good manager and leader. Our expectation of any leader’s ability should be to give their all in their performance. We cannot expect 100% perfection. But we can be thankful to witness a leader’s passion and endurance to teach and train their players. Bruce Bochy has been a great leader and manager. I personally would like to thank Bruce Bochy for his dedication to the SF Giants and his ability to inspire the players and the fans.

Go Giants!

The SF Giants played the new expansion team, Florida Marlins, in the Giants Home Opener on Monday, April 12, 1993. Home Openers for the Giants were always guaranteed sellout games and tickets were harder to come by. I was extremely happy that I was able to go to this game. The Giants won the game, 4-3.

It was always nice to see the large crowd of people at Candlestick Park which was not a common sight unless it was the Home Opener, weekend Dodgers games, or Post Season games. Here was a look down the 3rd base side with the distinctive press box at the top of the stadium.

The last Opening Day National Anthem for the SF Giants at Candlestick Park was on April 8, 1999.  It rained earlier in the day but the weather cleared up nicely for the opener. This was a bittersweet moment. This was the last year the SF Giants played at Candlestick but they were going to move to a brand new scenic and state of the art ballpark at Willie Mays Plaza. AT&T Park is flourishing now and Candlestick Park has been demolished.

The Giants helped to make the day extra special by defeating the San Diego Padres, 12-4. Shawn Estes got the win and Stan Spencer took the loss.

img009-dust-removed-copyI took this photograph on the 3rd base side including the left field corner.  It is April 12, 1993 when the SF Giants played against the Florida Marlins.  This was the inaugural year for the Marlins, where the team was created by an expansion draft in the off season of 1992.

I like the Press Box at Candlestick Park.  It’s too bad I never had the opportunity to sit inside or walk thru it.  It was a unique feature of Candlestick Park.

It was fun to be there on Opening Day where the stadium was filled to maximum capacity.  The excitement in the air with such a large crowd was a memorable experience.

img018 CopyEveryone loves going to Opening Day games for the Giants.  This game was on April 12, 1993 against the Florida Marlins.  I was excited to be there and took lots of photographs.

There was lots of activities going on during the Pre-Game Ceremony.  The Marlins were warming up on the Candlestick Park field.  They were an expansion team, and this was their first year.

Notice the cars on the left side.  Great Giants players from the past were driven out on the field as part of the pre-game ceremony.

See the vintage advertisement – i.e. The Good Guys – a former consumer electronics retail corporation with 71 stores in California, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington.  I enjoyed working as a professional photographer in their advertising department.  The Good Guys went out of business in 2006.  Fortunately Lee jeans is still in business today.

It was a good game with the SF Giants winning 4-3.  Fans were very focused on the game, since there were no smart phones, selfies, and social media. People had a good time just enjoying the game of baseball and sharing the time with friend and family at the stadium.  It was a different experience than today when we watch baseball.
