This was the view from the top of Candlestick Park in section 55 on the northeast end of the stadium behind right center field for the top photograph. The bottom photograph was taken from section 1 on the south end zone of the stadium or behind home plate. The roof structure was built to help block some of the wind. It was a pretty good climb getting up to the top which was row 23. The north side of the stadium usually did not have many fans seated there for baseball except for play-off/World Series games or weekend Giants vs Dodger series.

I really like the bright orange chairs from the top photograph which I took in the day time.  I also like the glistening bronze glow of the stadium chairs from the night time stadium lights.  The chairs from each photo are from the opposite locations at Candlestick Park.  The types of light and the time of day can make all the difference in the appearance of a photograph.

I found out today that my photographs at Cafe St. Jorge will be up until Friday evening.  If you happen to be in that neighborhood, please go and take a look.  Or you can also catch me taking down the photographs on Friday before the cafe closes.

Thanks again Cafe St. Jorge for the opportunity to show my photographs.

Night Games were always great at Candlestick Park.  This photograph was shot on May 20, 1988 from the bleacher seats behind the left field fence.  I was focused on the press box under the bright stadium lights.

The San Francisco Giants beat the Montreal Expos 11-2.  Since then, the Montreal Expos became the Washington Nationals.

As usual, I was walking around Candlestick Park looking for different scenes to shoot. This is my passion to find art in baseball stadiums.  Candlestick Park was my first baseball stadium where I discovered how I could shoot thousands of different photographs of this stadium.  I have only shared a small portion of my Candlestick Park photograph collection.

If you want to see a few of my photographs at Cafe St. Jorge’s in San Francisco, please hurry to take a look.  See the link below for their address.  I will be taking down the photographs this Thursday.

Thank you Cafe St. Jorge for allowing me to show my photographs and photo magnet pins this past month.

img228-dust-removed-copySunlight on the last watch on this pleasant afternoon at Candlestick Park during the SF Giants batting practice in the 1989 season.  The center field flags were motionless and the sunlight highlighted right field before retreating to the darkness of the night game.

When ever I go to a game early, I always try to watch some batting practice to help to relax and lower my stress levels.  It is tranquility watching batting practice and hearing the crack of baseballs coming off the bats.

img009-dust-removed-copyI took this photograph on the 3rd base side including the left field corner.  It is April 12, 1993 when the SF Giants played against the Florida Marlins.  This was the inaugural year for the Marlins, where the team was created by an expansion draft in the off season of 1992.

I like the Press Box at Candlestick Park.  It’s too bad I never had the opportunity to sit inside or walk thru it.  It was a unique feature of Candlestick Park.

It was fun to be there on Opening Day where the stadium was filled to maximum capacity.  The excitement in the air with such a large crowd was a memorable experience.

img059a-dust-removed-copyA warm afternoon at Candlestick Park with fans milling and walking around the upper and mid-level concourse levels.  The walking ramps were well traveled by fans going to their destinations.

There will be an artist reception of some Candlestick Park photographs at Bazaar Cafe, 5927 California St, SF, CA on Monday, September 26, from 7:00pm to 9:00pm.  Please come if you are interested.  Thank you.

img242-dust-removed-copyThe SF Giants were warming up and taking batting practice 2 hours before a night game.  The sun was setting and had reached the upper deck of the stadium.  This was during the 1989 season which was 10 years before the Giants would play their last game at Candlestick Park.  The photograph was taken with my Canon EOS 620 35mm camera using Kodachrome 64 slide film.

img028-kodachrome-5-88-dust-removed-copyA wonderful sunny day at Candlestick Park during pre-game warm-ups.  Fans in the front row of the bleachers were politely asking the players for a baseball souvenir tossed to them.  This was during the 1988 baseball season, and Candlestick Park had the metal chain linked fence in the outfield.  Watching batting practice and the players warm-up were a good way to relax and de-stress during the rigors of daily life.

I took this picture on Saturday, May 14, 1988.  It was Fuji Photo Day at Candlestick Park.  I love being on the stadium grass field.  I took this photograph towards the end of the pre-game event.  People are starting to come into the stadium for this game – SF Giants versus the New York Mets.  I tried to stay on the field as long as I could.  See the score board sign – “PLEASE LEAVE THE FIELD TODAY BY WAY OF THE STAIRWAYS & RAMPS….”.  There were hundreds of fans on the field.  So I lingered in the back of the crowd with this sign looming to tell me to leave.  You can see as I took this photograph that there is no one left on the field.   The ushers were nice and did not force me off the field.  I was pretty slow walking off the field.   I took as many shots as I could, and I was about the last fan to leave the field.

Please examine this photograph.  Can you see the letters in the upper deck behind center field?  It was so cool how these particular fans folded up the seat bottoms to show the letters.  Can you see METS?

Taking Batting Practice At The Stick

Batting Practice before a game

Batting Practice before a game in the late 1980’s.

I was at Candlestick Park at my usual 2 hours prelude before the game.  I went behind home plate on the third base side to watch the SF Giants taking batting practice.

Roger Craig – The former SF Giants manager is standing behind the cage.

In those days, the stadium was pretty empty before the game.  The games were rarely sold out and the stadium usually was not at full capacity.

Notice the people standing in the right field pavillion section.  These people were hoping to catch a batting practice homerun ball.

On the top, there were major baseball team emblems displayed between the right field pavillion and the upper deck.

On the right field fence, see the cool discs with the retired Great SF Giants players names and numbers.

Too bad I could not get one of those discs when they tore down the Stick.  I wish I knew what happened to those discs.
