Red Leaf Sugar Maple Basking in the Sun at Hiawatha Highlands, Sault Ste Marie

This photograph was taken at the top of Crystal Falls at Hiawatha Highlands in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada. My wife’s cousins took us to this beautiful park. We hiked on a trail that ran parallel to Crystal Falls, where I saw some Red Sugar Maple Leaves near the trail at the top of the falls. My focus during this trip was to find these bright red leaves.

This leaf is not a perfectly symmetrical Red Sugar Maple Leaf. In our minds, we can see the the perfect points of the leaf gradually come down the side in an “A” slant. Then we can imagine each point has parallel corresponding point.

This leaf has been torn and broken apart randomly. I shot this leaf since I found it’s lack of asymmetry interesting. The holes and interesting shape is what I found attractive.

Can we accept ourselves with our imperfections – i.e. a funny shape or holes in our character? Does this mean we should be content and not strive for change to improve? No – Goals should be a constant in life.

Can we accept that who we are inside and out is good and can get better with work?

Photos Teach!

On a road trip a month ago on 10/13/17 with my buddy, Larry, we were in search of some elusive Red Sugar Maple Leaves and found some in New Hampshire. My timing was a little off as a lot of areas in New Hampshire were past the Fall Foliage Prime as most of the leaves were on the ground.

Absolutely wonderful Fall Foliage at this lake in New Hampshire. It was such a cool sight seeing so many Fall colors in one place. The weather was perfect as I enjoyed photographing the sunset and back-lit Maple leaves a few weeks ago.

New Hampshire Fall Foliage at Chocorua Lake

I was on a one day road trip with a good buddy of mine who moved from Redwood Glen, CA, to North Andover, MA.  I was staying with him for a week as he works at Rolling Ridge Conference Center in North Andover. We were in search of outstanding fall foliage scenery.  We had stopped at various spots, and so far we found good scenery.  But I was seeking a “perfect” fall foliage spot.

As we were driving, my buddy noticed this spot on the roadside.  Unfortunately, he missed the turn off since I was hesitant about the spot.  I was a little discouraged in our search.  It was getting later in the day, and I was afraid the lighting would not be right for the photographs.  But I’m glad we did turn back to see this fall array of colors with these few trees.  This was the outstanding scenery I was searching for.

Late afternoon sunlight lit up the Sugar Maple Leaves at the shores of Chocorua Lake in New Hampshire. The color, lighting, and setting were magical as there were at least four different color maple leaves when I looked up at the maple canopy.  My wife thought this was one tree.  Actually I only focused on this one trunk, but these branches belong to other trees.  This trunk is interesting with the various circles going up the tree.

The moral of the story is to never give up on a goal no matter how big or small it is.  Even when we are hesitant in our search, proceed on and pursue the ideas which we are doubtful about.  Goals can be reached in the most unexpected ways!

My Fall Foliage Journey on Kancamagaus Highway

Fall Foliage Adventure in the white mountains along Kancamagaus Highway in search of sugar maples

I have a fascination with searching for the best fall foliage.  A few years ago I saw my first peak fall foliage in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada.  I was captivated by all the bright colors.  I am so glad I was able to shoot so many photographs at that time and have shared a few of the photographs at photo shows.

Last year, I went to Vail, Colorado to seek Fall Foliage.  I missed the peak but still got some fascinating photographs of the Blue Aspen Trees.  My tree photographs looked blue due to the natural lighting and the shadows.  Remember I do not enhance my photograph via software.

This year I went to Boston and enjoyed a wonderful time with my good buddy.  We ventured to New Hampshire along the Kancamagaus Highway.  I just got home and am excited to edit my photographs from this trip.  Thanks to my friend, Larry, for all his hospitality.  He took the above photograph of me shooting this wonderful scene.

What is the lesson I am learning?  Pursue your passions, and see where it will lead you.  This is what I am trying to do and am excited to see where I will go on this journey.

Stay tuned to see my new fall foliage photographs!

Shadows on a Sugar Maple Leaf

I took this photograph at the height of fall foliage in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada. I was so excited seeing all the bright fall colors and took so many photographs.  Every time I review these photographs I see something new.

I am intrigued by the shadow on this Sugar Maple Leaf.  I like the shadow on the leaf because of the interesting design, and the contrast it gives to the picture.  I am not sure where this shadow came from.  It may be from another leaf.

I also love the bright red colors on this leaf.  In California, the leaves never seem to be as bright as what I saw in Canada!  It amazes me how brilliant this red orange leaf is.

What do you get excited about?  I keep fallling in love with fall, and it’s colors!  I’m excited fall is coming, and am looking forward to my future search for more fall colors.

I love keeping it real by sharing my photographs which are untouched!

Fall is around the corner

I love “Fall”.  When I photographed this image, I was in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, and happened to be there during the one week where Fall Foliage was at its peak.  Being from California, I never saw such brilliant colors during the fall.  It was also the start of a greater fascination with fall colors.

I like this center leaf with the variation of colors – bright red, yellow, and dark spots. It is interesting that each leaf is unique in design just as the uniqueness of an individual’s finger print.

I look forward to Fall every year now.  Last year, I missed the peak of fall foliage in Colorado.  But I still loved the bare Aspen tree forests.  This year, I will also be seeking to find more fall foliage.  Stay tuned to see what I will find!

As always, be assured this photograph is untouched and real!

In the Middle of Change

img_0874-copy-2In life, we do not always like change.  It is unsettling.  We have to adjust.  There may be unexpected things that occur where we need to figure how to handle.

Change can be beautiful.  We need to learn to embrace changes which help us to grow as individuals and realize we need  change.

This is a sugar maple leaf in the middle of fall change.  I took this in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.  The striking yellow  and green veins indicate the middle of transition from  green to orange.  Our photos should record the transitions in our life.

This is another example of taking your photos with the light from behind to enhance the colors.  About 15 to 20 years ago, I would photograph 35 mm Chrome film for transparencies and slides.  When we would project the slides with the light from behind which would enhance the colors in the image.  Seek true color in your photos (then you will not need to photoshop) and record the changes in your life.
